North Harbour Preschool is a family owned and operated childcare facility operating on the North Shore in Auckland. We are located at 12 Laurina Road, Sunnynook (off Sycamore Road).
North Harbour Preschool has been operating for the past 24 years. For the past 15 years, it has been owned and operated by the Hirst family, with 10 under two’s spaces and 30 children aged two to five.
We believe that finding the best childcare for your child and your family is one of the most important choices you will make. At North Harbour we try to make the rooms as homely as possible promoting a happy, social environment where your child can develop confidence, self-awareness, gain the necessary social skills that will help them on their life journey, while providing plenty of educational opportunities for them to grow physically and mentally.
What sets North Harbour Preschool apart is the space we have throughout the centre. We have large rooms for each of our ages groups specifically designed for different groups of individual children. We are passionate about providing our children with opportunities that promote exploration and learning through play while fostering their individuality and a natural curiosity about the world around them. We have a large, natural, outdoor play space designed with exploration in mind. Children can explore with all their senses, smelling the lavender, tasting the mint and rosemary from the gardens, hiding in the tunnel or digging in the sandpit.
We are guided by our Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whāriki encouraging our children to grow as competent and confident learners with a strong sense of belonging in the centre, who are confident communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, and well-rounded individuals, that are able to make a valued contribution to society.
We are fully catered and provide plenty of nutritious food throughout the day for children who attend. Breakfast, Morning tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea. If your child is in after 4.30pm however children can bring in a healthy snack to see them through until dinner time.
We ask that each day children in the over two’s room bring a bag with two to three changes of clothes, summer or winter hats dependant on the season, footwear, nappies (if wearing) and a drink bottle. We provide drinking water daily and sunblock seasonally. We have good ratios of one teacher to seven children in our over two’s room.
For parents of children under two, parents bring babies bottles, formula, cuddly blankets three to four changes of clothes and nappies. We run this room on a ratio of three children to one teacher. In doing this we are able to ensure we meet each child’s individual needs and fostering each child’s individual interests.
